General Assignment (GA) Reporters/Photographers.

For planned events (interhouses, Institute announcements, etc.) or unpredictable stories (disasters, surprise plots to end the house system, etc.) — one or more GA Reporters will be assigned by editors to attend/investigate, get interviews, take photos, or whatever is relevant.

They should promptly submit a brief synposis of the event and their findings to the editors. If there are subsequent important updates to the story, the editors should be notified ASAP.

Beat Reporters.

Reporters are expected to cover a BEAT. A beat is an area concerning Caltech that interests the reporter and is useful for the community to know about.
