PUBLICATION TIMELINE.
DAY -12 (Thursday):
- Editors: Preliminary Issue Meeting.
Preliminary issue plan — identify writers, assign reporters to long-term stories.
Ensure we have enough content to fill 10 pages because stuff will be dialed back.
Can have slots for “stories to be named later” where we have commitments from reporters to cover news that breaks in the week
DAY -5 (Thursday):
- Reporters: ROUGH DRAFTS or PROGRESS UPDATES DUE TO EDITORS 12pm.
Reporters/Writers should confirm with their Managing Editor whether or not their story will be ready on Day -3 (Saturday).
- Editors: CHECKPOINT MEETING.
Editors update the status of their stories on the ‣ Notion page
Evaluate each story, whether it can be included in Tuesday’s issue
DAY -3 (Saturday):
- Reporters: FINAL COPIES OF STORIES DUE TO EDITORS 12pm.
Managing Editors receive the stories and add them to the Master Document.
- Editors: THE MEETING WHERE WE PHYSICALLY SIT DOWN AND EDIT/CUT THE STORIES.
- Here, we check stories for completeness and correctness. Ample time to work with reporters to correct errors and clarify ambiguities.
- After the meeting, either a story is ready for publication with our edits or it isn’t.
- If edits can be made in time with the reporter, we do that and fix it ASAP
- If not, the story is punted to the next issue unless it is time-sensitive, in which case it can be edited until sunday night
DAY -2 (Sunday):
DAY -1 (Monday):
